Stephane Henchoz believes Dan Ndoye must deliver more goals after a disappointing first Premier League campaign with Nottingham Forest.
The former Switzerland defender, who mentored the winger during his international career, has called on the 25-year-old to prove his worth after netting only once in the top flight last term. Ndoye completed a £34 million switch from Bologna twelve months ago but has found the step up to English football more challenging than expected, despite consistently impressing for his national team.
With Oliver Glasner now at the helm following his summer appointment, Ndoye faces increased pressure to cement a regular starting position. Henchoz suggested the adaptation phase must end and that the player now needs to demonstrate consistent attacking threat.
The ex-defender told Swiss outlet Blick that Forest represent a club with significant history and resources, operating under a new manager with ambitious targets. He noted the competition for places within the squad is particularly strong and emphasised that Ndoye must now establish himself properly and produce better scoring statistics.
Glasner selected Ndoye from the start in his first competitive fixture in charge, deploying him alongside Morgan Gibbs-White in the number ten positions behind striker Igor Jesus. The wide player was replaced approaching the 65th minute following a subdued performance.
Reports surfaced throughout the summer suggesting Ndoye could return to Italian football, with similar speculation during the January transfer window. However, Glasner’s apparent confidence in his ability means talk of a potential exit has diminished as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.
Competition for the two attacking midfield positions remains intense. Gibbs-White continues to be a key figure in the side, while James McAtee has been assigned a deeper role this season. Jesus could feature in that position, particularly if Forest secure another forward before the deadline. Additional wide options include Callum Hudson-Odoi, Omari Hutchinson and Dilane Bakwa.
